Take a look at what's on this month.

Early detection is key. Recognizing the signs of diabetes can help you take action before complications arise.

Common symptoms include:

  • Increased thirst and frequent urination
  • Blurred vision
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Slow healing of cuts and bruises
  • Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet

If you're over 45 or have risk factors such as a family history of diabetes or excess weight, consider speaking with your doctor. A simple blood test can determine whether you have prediabetes or diabetes and help you take control of your health.

Healthy lifestyle choices are powerful tools in preventing and managing diabetes.

Consider these tips:

  • Eat a balanced diet with vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean proteins.
  • Limit added sugar and refined carbohydrates.
  • Get at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days; both cardio and strength training help.
  • Maintain a healthy weight; even modest weight loss can improve outcomes.
  • If you smoke, make a plan to quit.
  • Manage stress through relaxation techniques, social support, or mental health counseling.

Gestational diabetes (GD)can develop during pregnancy and may affect both mother and baby. Screening typically occurs between 24–28 weeks. With proper management, through diet, exercise, and medication if needed; most pregnancies can remain healthy.

Tips for managing GD:

  • Eat smaller, frequent meals with lean protein, fiber, and complex carbs.
  • Engage in light daily exercise, such as walking.
  • Monitor blood sugar levels regularly.
  • Follow your  healthcare provider’s guidance on medications.
